The bodies of U Kyaw Maung Win and U Hla Win, who were brutally killed by the military council troops during their operation in Longlone Township, Tanintharyi Region, have been discovered, according to the Dawei District Democracy Movement Strike Committee. On June 14, military council forces advancing from Longlone town to Kanyun Island village forcibly detained approximately 100 civilians from villages along their route and from Kanyun Island village, using them as human shields during their operation.
During their raid on Kanyun Island village, the military troops deliberately shot and killed U Kyaw Maung Win, age 47, while he was working in his field, leaving his body abandoned in the paddy field. U Kyaw Maung Win, who was hearing impaired, was likely shot because he could not respond to the military’s calls, according to local residents’ assessment. The state of his recovered body showed severe decomposition, with his face being unrecognizable and only skeletal remains visible. A gunshot wound was found in his abdomen.
Subsequently, on June 24, as the same military column was returning from Longlone to Dawei, they captured U Hla Win, age 55, who was working in his orchard. He was taken away and brutally killed by having his throat cut. His body was discovered by local residents on June 27. The military forces also killed another Kanyun Island village resident, U Myo Zaw Aung (also known as U Myo Kyan Aung), by cutting his throat, and repeatedly sexually assaulted an elderly woman over 70 years of age, according to local sources. These incidents represent a pattern of brutal violence against civilians by military council forces in the region, demonstrating their continued use of terror tactics against the local population.
