Revolutionary groups in Yangon have conducted a campaign posting warrant photos of military leader Min Aung Hlaing and Russian President Vladimir Putin throughout the city. The activity, which took place on March 9, was carried out as a demonstration of solidarity between the people of Myanmar and Ukraine. This initiative combines the resistance against the military coup in Myanmar with the international movement opposing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, highlighting the parallel struggles for democracy in both nations.
The campaign was organized by four allied revolutionary groups in Yangon, collectively known as Yangon 4 Brothers (Y4B), comprising the Linn Yaung Ni Youth Organization (LYNYO), Mayangone Democratic Front (MDF), Kyimyindaing Networks (KMD18), and the Owl Community. These groups strategically placed warrant photos and symbolic posters throughout various townships, targeting main roads and high-traffic areas. This action serves to expose the violence perpetrated by both the Myanmar military council and the Russian government while demonstrating support for the democratic struggles of people in both countries.
This activity represents a significant show of unity between the people of Myanmar fighting against military dictatorship and the Ukrainian people resisting Russian aggression. Both nations face brutal authoritarian forces and are engaged in struggles for democracy and freedom, creating a natural basis for mutual understanding and support. The campaign effectively highlights the international nature of the fight against authoritarianism and emphasizes the importance of global solidarity in opposing military aggression and supporting democratic movements. By connecting these two struggles, the activists demonstrate that the fight for democracy and human rights transcends national boundaries and requires international solidarity and support.
