Resistance groups in Yangon have conducted a campaign posting warrant photos of military leader Min Aung Hlaing and Russian President Vladimir Putin throughout the city. The activity, which took place on March 9, was carried out to demonstrate solidarity between the people of Myanmar and Ukraine. This initiative combines the resistance against the military coup in Myanmar with the international movement opposing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, highlighting the parallel struggles for democracy and freedom in both nations.
The campaign was organized by four allied revolutionary groups in Yangon, collectively known as Yangon 4 Brothers (Y4B), comprising the Linn Yaung Ni Youth Organization (LYNYO), Mayangone Democratic Front (MDF), Kyimyindaing Networks (KMD18), and Owl Community. These organizations not only protest against the Myanmar military council’s violence but also condemn Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. They particularly emphasized that both Min Aung Hlaing and Putin are accused of committing international crimes and face arrest warrants for their actions.
This activity was intended to demonstrate solidarity between the people of Myanmar and Ukraine, as both nations face brutal authoritarian regimes and their citizens suffer from loss of life, property, and basic human rights. The campaign highlights the connection between the two struggles, particularly noting that the Myanmar military council continues to purchase weapons and ammunition from Russia, which are then used to suppress civilians. This mutual support between the people of both countries reflects their shared experience of fighting against oppression and their common aspirations for democracy and freedom. The initiative also serves to raise awareness about the international warrants issued against both leaders and their responsibility for crimes against their own people and the international community.
