The military council forces have launched intense air and ground attacks in the Lay Kay Kaw area near the Thai-Myanmar border in Myawaddy Township, Karen State. Starting from the morning of September 23, the attacks have included bombing raids by Y-12 aircraft, heavy artillery shelling, and ground force operations, according to local military sources. From around 10 AM until 11:30 AM, continuous aerial bombardment was carried out by Y-12 aircraft, while Infantry Battalion 275 based in Myawaddy conducted sustained attacks using 122mm artillery weapons.
The military council forces are advancing toward Lay Kay Kaw town with a large number of troops, engaging in fierce battles with local resistance forces. Despite suffering significant casualties, the military council continues to press forward with newly conscripted soldiers in an attempt to capture the strategic Swayedaw Artillery Hill. The sounds of airstrikes and artillery fire from the military council’s attacks can be heard as far as Mae Sot town in Thailand, as confirmed by Mae Sot residents.
The previous day also saw continuous artillery attacks on Lay Kay Kaw and Mae Htaw Tha Lay areas near Myawaddy. Intense fighting broke out when military columns advanced toward areas including Bogyonenaing Hill (also known as Einkyi Hill), a monastery, and cave areas, with battles continuing up to the present time. Local civilians are experiencing significant concern due to the fighting, and some have been forced to flee their homes due to the deteriorating security situation. The military council’s aggressive campaign in the region has led to widespread displacement and humanitarian concerns among the local population.
