In an incident that occurred in Nattalin Township, Bago Region, an individual who was forcibly conscripted into military service killed a police officer before defecting to revolutionary forces with weapons. According to an official from Yangon Division Battalion 3801, Ko Sai Myat Ko, who was being detained at Taungnyokwetthit Police Station, managed to escape after the incident.
Ko Sai Myat Ko was forcibly recruited for military service on September 10 during a motorcycle license inspection by police officers at Taungnyokwetthit market area. Approximately 10 days after his forced recruitment, on September 21, during a police lineup, he attacked and killed a lone police officer with a knife. He then seized the officer’s G3 rifle, 10 rounds of ammunition, and a magazine before fleeing the scene.
Subsequently, Ko Sai Myat Ko defected to Battalion 3801 with the seized weapons and ammunition. Battalion officials awarded him 2 million kyats and encouraged other forcibly conscripted individuals to similarly defect to revolutionary forces when opportunities arise. The battalion continues to urge conscripts not to serve the interests of the violent military council and to join the revolutionary path instead.
