On September 21, protest groups from Sagaing Region’s Salingyi Township, Yinmabin Township, and Monywa’s Main Public Strike Leading Committee, along with former ABFSU (All Burma Federation of Student Unions) members and Dagon University Student Union from Yangon, jointly organized a motorcycle protest to oppose the military council’s planned sham election. This motorcycle protest represents part of the public resistance movement against the military council’s illegal seizure of power, demonstrating the people’s rejection of the council’s attempts to legitimize their authority through a fraudulent election process.
The participating groups in the protest are organizations that have been actively resisting the military council’s oppression and fighting for the rights and freedoms of the public. The motorcycle protest was conducted peacefully and represented the voice of civilians who are suffering under the military council’s violent suppression. Furthermore, it served to expose to the international community the human rights violations, unlawful killings, torture, and arbitrary detentions being perpetrated by the military council against the people of Myanmar.
The students and youth who participated in the motorcycle protest warned that the military council’s sham election would not reflect the genuine will of the people, highlighting how the council continues to violate people’s rights and freedoms while destroying genuine democratic systems. They also brought attention to the civilian casualties, forced displacement, and economic hardships that people are facing due to the military council’s violence. The protest emphasized that the military council’s attempts to hold an election while maintaining their grip on power through force and intimidation cannot be considered legitimate or democratic.
