Revolutionary forces have successfully completed their capture of Banmauk town in Sagaing Region on September 20, according to local military sources. The final offensive began at approximately 6:40 PM when resistance forces launched their attack on the last remaining strategic hilltop position where the military council forces and their SNA allies had been stationed. The successful capture of this position marked the complete liberation of the town, which had been under siege since September 14.
During the battle, military council forces and their allies from the Shan State Army-North (SNA) suffered casualties and were forced to retreat from their positions within the town. The operation was led by the Commander of District 1 Military Region, Katha District, with the coordinated participation of Katha District Battalions (2, 4, 5), Military Region 1 Column, Special Mobile Battalions, Katha District People’s Defense Forces, Katha District Artillery Unit, and Banmauk Township PDF forces. The combined revolutionary forces executed a systematic operation that ultimately resulted in the complete withdrawal of military council forces from the town.
Currently, revolutionary forces are conducting thorough clearing operations throughout the town while prioritizing the safety and security of local civilians. Military analysts note that the capture of Banmauk represents a significant strategic victory for the revolutionary forces in the region, as the town held considerable military importance within Sagaing Region. The successful operation demonstrates the growing capabilities and coordination among various resistance forces in their campaign against the military council. The liberation of Banmauk marks another milestone in the ongoing resistance movement, as revolutionary forces continue to expand their control over key territories in the region.
