Military council leader Min Aung Hlaing has issued orders for stricter control and monitoring of social media usage during a meeting with military officers in Myeik, Tanintharyi Region. He directed authorities to prevent and monitor social media activities that could potentially harm the military’s security and interests. This directive comes amid claims of security information leaks through social media platforms.
Min Aung Hlaing stated that in today’s media age, systematic control of social media usage is necessary, emphasizing the need to prohibit activities that could compromise the security of the military and its personnel. He further claimed that information from government ministries and staff is being leaked through social media platforms, instructing relevant authorities to effectively address these issues. The directive specifically focuses on preventing the dissemination of military-related information and maintaining strict oversight of social media activities among military personnel and government employees.
During the military commission meeting held on September 12, he also ordered action against security breaches through social media, directing measures to prevent leaks of personnel information and security-related data. He claimed that such information leaks could impact from individual levels up to the state level, announcing plans to implement security awareness programs and enforcement measures. The military council’s increasing focus on social media control reflects their concerns about information security and their attempt to maintain tight control over information flow within their ranks and government departments.
