A senior official from the Yinmabin District Training Department has confirmed that prisoners of war captured during the battle in Chaung Ma village, Kani Township, Sagaing Region, have been transferred to the District Command in accordance with prisoner of war laws. The battle, which took place on September 11, involved People’s Defense Forces fighting alongside training instructors from the Yinmabin District Training Department. The conflict was triggered when a military column of approximately 500 troops from Ban Bwe Pyu village entered Chaung Ma village on the Monywa-Yagyi road, via Thayoegyin and Chintaung villages, on September 3. The military forces proceeded to burn and destroy civilian homes and shops in the area.
During the seven-day occupation of Chaung Ma village by the military, the ensuing battle resulted in nine military casualties and four captures. The resistance forces also seized various military equipment including 60mm, MA-1, MA-3 MAS, and MG3 weapons, along with a Jumper machine and other military supplies. The military commission’s use of howitzers and 120mm heavy weapons resulted in civilian casualties, while an airstrike led to the death of a Union Liberation Front (ULF) column commander and injured two resistance fighters. The military’s aggressive actions, including the destruction of civilian property and the use of heavy weapons against populated areas, demonstrate their continued pattern of violence against civilians.
Currently, while the military has halted their offensive and retreated to Ban Bwe Pyu, revolutionary forces remain vigilant, according to the Yinmabin District Training Department official. Although the military is conducting troop rotations in Ban Bwe Pyu village, People’s Defense Forces maintain their defensive positions. This battle represents another instance of the military regime’s brutality against civilians, with resistance forces continuing their struggle to protect the people. The transfer of prisoners of war to proper authorities demonstrates the resistance forces’ commitment to following international protocols even as they fight against military oppression.
