The battle for control of Banmauk City in Sagaing Region continues to intensify as People’s Defense Forces (PDF) have successfully captured six military outposts from the military council forces, according to confirmation from resistance forces. The military council had stationed approximately 400 troops from Battalion 614 under the command of Strategic Commander Yan Htun at various outposts throughout the city.
The People’s Defense Forces have successfully seized control of six strategic outposts, including Myit Sae Chin Village Outpost (1), Myit Sae Chin Village Outpost (2), Tower Hill Outpost, Pagoda Hill, Buffalo Hill, and Factory Hill Outpost on September 15th. During the battles, the military council forces suffered significant casualties, with surviving troops retreating to positions within the city center. The Banmauk offensive is being conducted through coordinated efforts of multiple resistance groups, including Katha District Battalions (2, 4, 5), Military Region 1 Column, Special Mobile Battalions, Katha District PDF forces, artillery units, and Banmauk Township PDF forces, all operating under the command of Military Region 1 Katha District Commander.
The military council has blocked the Banmauk-Homalin road and is preventing thousands of civilians in the city from evacuating, effectively using them as human shields according to resistance forces. Additionally, the military council continues to conduct frequent airstrikes on Banmauk City and surrounding areas, causing destruction to civilian lives and property. The fighting remains ongoing, with People’s Defense Forces continuing their offensive against remaining military positions within the city. The military’s actions have created a severe humanitarian crisis for local residents who are caught in the crossfire while being denied the opportunity to seek safety in other areas.
