Revolutionary forces have successfully captured several military council outposts around Banmauk town in Sagaing Region, with ongoing battles continuing in the area, according to local military sources. The offensive operations began on September 14, when combined People’s Defense Force (PDF) units launched coordinated attacks on military council guard posts surrounding Banmauk town. Current reports confirm that resistance forces have taken control of multiple military outposts in the vicinity of the town.
While there have been casualties on the military council’s side during the Banmauk offensive, the exact numbers cannot be confirmed at this time. The fighting has continued with intensity through September 17 in areas surrounding Banmauk town. The military council has blocked the Banmauk-Homalin road and is reportedly using civilians as human shields, preventing them from fleeing the conflict zone. This has created a humanitarian crisis as local residents are trapped in the midst of active combat operations.
Additionally, on September 15, the People’s Defense Force of Indaw Township announced an indefinite closure of all routes connecting Indaw Township to Banmauk Township, including the strategic Indaw-Banmauk road. This widespread road closure has severely impacted civilian movement and the flow of goods in the region, putting local communities at risk of shortages of essential supplies and medical resources. The situation has created significant challenges for residents who are now facing potential scarcity of basic necessities and medical supplies due to these military-imposed restrictions.
