On September 17, local military sources reported that civilians from villages in Dawei, Launglon, Thayetchaung, and Yebyu Townships in Tanintharyi Region were forced to flee en masse as the military council conducted continuous airstrikes using two Y-12 aircraft. The aerial bombardment began in the morning hours and has been systematically targeting these areas, with operations continuing until the present time.
Due to the military council’s air attacks, local residents have had to abandon their homes and seek shelter in safer locations. Reports indicate that more than 40 bombs have been dropped so far by the two aircraft. According to local military sources, these airstrikes are not in response to any ongoing battles in the region, but rather are part of a territorial clearance operation ahead of military council leader Min Aung Hlaing’s scheduled visit to Dawei city on September 18.
In preparation for Min Aung Hlaing’s visit to Dawei, the military council has deployed a large number of security forces throughout the city and implemented strict security measures at all entry and exit points. While the extent of civilian casualties from the airstrikes remains unconfirmed, local residents continue to flee to safer areas in fear, as the bombardment persists. The situation has created significant displacement and distress among the local population, who have been forced to leave their homes and communities behind for their safety.
