According to an official from the People’s Defense Force Battalion 4 Column 2 of Monywa District, four military soldiers were killed in a remote-detonated mine attack while they were collecting extortion money on the Mandalay-Monywa road. The attack occurred on September 16 at approximately 8:30 AM, targeting military soldiers who were harassing and extorting money from civilians along the Mandalay-Monywa road section.
At the attack site, there were six military soldiers present, of whom four were killed instantly, and one was injured. The remaining two managed to escape. The resistance forces were able to successfully withdraw from the area without any casualties after the attack. The official further stated that these military soldiers had set up checkpoints along the Mandalay-Monywa road where they would arrest, threaten, and extort money from traveling civilians.
The operation was successfully carried out through the joint effort of several resistance groups, including the Monywa District People’s Defense Force Battalion 4 Special Commando Force (Monywa The Boys), Monywa District People’s Defense Force Battalion 4 Column 2 (5/Commando Force), Monywa District People’s Defense Force Battalion 28 Column 3, and Tamu District People’s Defense Force Battalion 4. The resistance forces expressed hope that such attacks would deter future oppression and extortion of civilians by the military forces in the region.
