Three civilians were killed during two consecutive days of aerial attacks by the military council forces on villages in Myittha Township, Mandalay Region. The attacks occurred on September 16th, targeting areas near a Buddhist monastery in the northeast of Myittha Township and around Ukkan village. The initial attack took place around 2:30 PM when a military council jet fighter conducted an airstrike near the Tika monastery, though no casualties were reported from this initial strike.
However, a subsequent attack by another jet fighter targeted the vicinity of Ukkan village, where a bomb struck a workshop, resulting in the deaths of three civilians – a 50-year-old man named U Win and two other unidentified men in their 30s. One additional civilian was injured in this attack. The previous day, on September 15th at approximately 11:23 PM, the military council forces had also conducted an aerial attack using a Y-12 aircraft, dropping three bombs near Setaw village, though no casualties were reported from that incident.
Local sources report that these attacks were carried out in areas where there was no active fighting, suggesting deliberate targeting of civilian populations. The military council’s continued aerial bombardment of civilian areas in Myittha Township has caused significant concern among local residents, who note that these attacks appear to be specifically aimed at causing civilian casualties and creating terror among the local population. The Voice of Mandalay has documented these incidents, highlighting the pattern of unprovoked attacks on civilian areas by military forces in the region.
