A spokesperson from the Kawthaung District People’s Defense Force has confirmed that at least six military personnel were killed during attacks on military vessels in Kamaukgyi Township, Kawthaung District, Tanintharyi Region. On September 9, around 12:30 PM, a group of over 30 soldiers, part of a larger force of approximately 100 stationed at the Yuzone Palm Oil Plantation in Kamauk Ngay, attempted to advance via waterway using two small boats. The People’s Defense Forces engaged the advancing military boats, resulting in one vessel sinking and multiple military casualties.
Following the initial engagement, the remaining military forces at the Yuzone Palm Oil Plantation responded with continuous artillery fire using 120mm and 81mm weapons. Despite the heavy counterattack, the People’s Defense Forces successfully withdrew without suffering any casualties. The following day, on September 10, two separate incidents occurred at 8:20 AM and 9:30 AM when reinforcement troops numbering around 50 personnel attempted to reach the area from Kawthaung city using two boats. The People’s Defense Forces intercepted these reinforcements near the Ten Houses Area of Maliewon village in Kawthaung Township, resulting in a three-hour firefight.
During these engagements, numerous military personnel were either killed or wounded, with the military forces providing continuous artillery support. The injured and deceased soldiers were evacuated back to Kawthaung. During subsequent area clearance operations, between four to six bodies and military uniforms were discovered in the water. Reports indicate that military bases in Kawthaung and Kamaukgyi have been conducting continuous funeral services. The wounded are receiving treatment at both Ranong Hospital in Thailand and Kawthaung Hospital, with some succumbing to their injuries after reaching medical facilities, according to the Kawthaung District People’s Defense Force official.
These operations were conducted through the coordinated efforts of various revolutionary forces and organizations within Kawthaung District, achieving their objectives without sustaining casualties among the People’s Defense Forces. With military activities expected to intensify in the Kawthaung District, revolutionary forces have advised local civilians to maintain military awareness and have urged them to reject and actively oppose the military council’s planned sham elections rather than participating in them.
