
A bomb explosion occurred at a military security checkpoint known as the barrier gate in front of Yangon City Hall in Kyauktada Township on the morning of September 16, according to reports from the Yangon Scout Group and local residents. The incident took place around 6:45 AM, after which security forces immediately arrived at the scene and conducted clearance operations. According to local residents, there were no injuries reported from the explosion.
Regarding the incident, a resident living on 31st Street stated that when they first heard the explosion, they thought it was a tire burst. However, upon checking at the end of the street, they witnessed the arrival of police vehicles, military vehicles, and fire trucks. Security forces took photographs at the scene and conducted vehicle inspections, with the clearance operation lasting only about 15 minutes.
Currently, while pedestrian access to the explosion site is restricted, vehicle traffic is allowed to continue as normal. Police and military personnel are maintaining heightened security inside the City Hall compound, armed with weapons. This incident occurred at the same location where a similar explosion had taken place in 2022. The area remains under close surveillance, with security forces conducting regular patrols and checks to prevent further incidents.
