
On September 11 at approximately 11:00 AM, intense fighting broke out near Chaungma village in Kani Township, Sagaing Region, between the military council forces and People’s Defense Forces. The conflict began when a military column of about 100 troops from Infantry Battalion 16 under Military Division 33, led by Major Thurain, advanced toward Chaungma village. The People’s Defense Forces under the command of the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Defense, along with local defense forces, launched a coordinated attack against the advancing military column.
During the engagement, three military council soldiers were killed, and four were captured alive. The People’s Defense Forces successfully seized several weapons from the military council forces, including four MA-1 rifles, one MA-3 rifle, one MG-3 machine gun, one MAS sniper rifle, and one jumper, along with other military equipment. The National Unity Government’s Ministry of Defense confirmed these details in their official statement regarding the engagement.
Following the battle, the military council forces retreated toward Ban Bwe Pyu Saw Htee village, with People’s Defense Forces continuing to pursue and engage them. This battle represents a significant engagement between military council forces and resistance forces in the Sagaing Region, demonstrating the growing capability of local resistance forces in their defense operations. The successful seizure of weapons and capture of military personnel marks an important tactical victory for the People’s Defense Forces in their ongoing resistance against the military council’s operations in the region.
