
According to reports, thousands of civilians have been forced to flee to safety as a military council naval fleet stationed near Kyauk Myaing village in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, continues to launch artillery attacks on villages along the river. On September 9, a fleet of 14 military vessels arrived near Kyauk Myaing village and began indiscriminately firing heavy weapons and small arms at surrounding villages, according to local residents.
Due to the attacks by the military council’s naval fleet, residents from numerous villages including Shinmagya, Indaing, Minyahtaung, Ywartha, Kanphyu, Ngataiktaung, Ngarye, Bogyikyun, Thekyun, Ywatanshay, and Moegyo have been forced to evacuate to safer locations fearing for their lives. Additionally, the military council’s Y-12, J-Fighter aircraft and Mi-35 helicopters have been continuously conducting airstrikes along the Ayeyarwady River corridor.
According to local sources, the military council’s naval fleet had traveled downstream and temporarily stopped near Kyauk Myaing village in Shwebo Township when they began firing artillery at the surrounding villages. However, as local residents had advance warning of the situation, they were able to evacuate in time and no injuries were reported. Currently, the military council’s naval fleet has stopped near Shinmagya village in Wetlet Township, and local residents are monitoring their next movements.
