A three-year-old girl, Ma Ngwe Hmun Oo, was killed instantly when the military council forces fired artillery at Ha Phu village in Ye Phyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, without any ongoing battle in the area, according to Comrade Saw Da Ko, the Strategic Commander of Strategy 33. The incident occurred around 11 AM on September 8, when military forces stationed in Myaung Chaung village deliberately fired heavy weapons at Ha Phu village despite there being no active conflict in the area.
The artillery shell fragment struck the child’s head, resulting in her immediate death. Additionally, a 40-year-old villager named Ko Win Shwe suffered severe injuries, including a fractured leg and penetrating wounds to his left calf from shell fragments. Prior to this incident, on the evening of September 7, the military had arrested the deceased child’s father, Ko Thu Ra Aung, from his home, and he remains in detention without release as of now.
Furthermore, on September 6, the military forces had also attacked two vehicles traveling from Kawthaung without provocation, despite there being no active conflict, and burned one of the vehicles. Currently, the military council forces have been conducting operations with significant troop numbers to control Union Highway No. 8 for nearly two months, according to local sources. These deliberate attacks on innocent civilians have caused widespread fear and security concerns among local residents in the area.
