
A spokesperson from the People’s Defense Force – Punnavati Division has confirmed that four military personnel, including a captain, were killed when resistance forces attacked a military unit departing from Htauk Kyan Kwin Gate in Thaungdwin Gyi Township, Magway Region. The incident occurred around 2 PM on August 31, when approximately 25 soldiers from the military council were traveling from Htauk Kyan Kwin Gate in Thaungdwin Gyi Township to Dhanun Myaing Gate in Sinpaungwe Township for troop rotation. As they reached a section of the Bago Yoma bypass road, resistance forces launched an attack using pre-planted mines and small arms fire.
In the engagement, four military personnel, including a captain, were killed, and many others were wounded. The deceased captain was identified as being from the military’s production unit, with sources noting the presence of various military units including PCN, 967, and other production units in the area. The firefight lasted approximately ten minutes, according to the PDF official. Following the clash, military forces entered Thiri Ratana village in War Thon Phyu village tract, Thaungdwin Gyi Township, where they proceeded to burn civilian homes.

Civilians from villages near the conflict zone have been forced to flee as internally displaced persons. The attack was carried out through a coordinated effort of multiple resistance groups, including the People’s Defense Force-Punnavati, Salay District Battalion 5, Naypyidaw Battalion 902, Southern Magway People’s Defense Force, Thaungdwin Gyi PDF, Bissanoe People’s Defense Group, and the Magway Guerrilla Force.
