A protest against Myanmar’s military coup was held in Daegu, South Korea on September 7. The demonstration was organized by the overseas support groups of the Federal Movement of Democracy Forces of Myanmar (MFDMC), Thawka Thukha Gumi Support Group, and various Spring Revolution activist groups. The protesters strongly opposed the military council’s planned sham election and expressed their continued support for Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun to maintain his position at the United Nations.
During the protest, a Buddhist monk from Daegu expressed serious concerns about the health condition of democratic leader Aung San Suu Kyi. He urged both domestic and international revolutionary forces, along with the general public, to continue their struggle against the inhumane military junta that has been systematically violating human rights and oppressing the people of Myanmar. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in the fight for liberation from the oppressive authoritarian regime, encouraging everyone to contribute whatever they can to the resistance movement.
Protesters carried signs demanding the complete elimination of the military dictatorship, the establishment of a federal democratic system, the release of political prisoners, and an end to the military council’s violence. They also called on the international community to provide more effective support for the Myanmar people’s struggle for democracy and to impose stronger pressure and sanctions against the military regime. The protest concluded peacefully and successfully, demonstrating the continued resistance against military rule even among Myanmar communities abroad.
