A spokesperson from the Fire Dragon PDF has confirmed that resistance forces successfully attacked a military checkpoint on the Nyaunglebin-Madauk-Shwegyin road in Bago Region, resulting in the death of two military soldiers and the seizure of two weapons. The attack occurred around 6 AM on September 5th, targeting a temporary checkpoint where approximately twenty military personnel were collecting illegal tolls from passing vehicles. The checkpoint was being operated by forces from the military council who had been extorting money from civilians traveling along this important transportation route.
During the engagement, military forces from Infantry Battalion 20 based in Nyaunglebin responded with heavy weapons fire, but the resistance forces were able to withdraw safely without any casualties. The resistance forces successfully captured significant military equipment during the operation, including one MA1 rifle, one MA2 rifle, 180 rounds of ammunition, five ammunition magazines, and two hand grenades. This operation demonstrated the growing capabilities of resistance forces in conducting targeted attacks against military positions in the region.
According to the Fire Dragon PDF representative who provided details about the operation, the targeted checkpoint was not a permanent installation but rather a temporary position where military forces would set up during daylight hours to collect illegal tolls from civilians, typically withdrawing at night. The attack was carried out through coordination between Fire Dragon PDF and Fire Dragon Commando units, showcasing the effective collaboration between resistance forces. The operation was concluded successfully with all resistance fighters safely withdrawing from the area after achieving their objectives. This attack represents another significant blow to the military council’s attempts to maintain control over civilian transportation routes and their illegal revenue collection activities in the region.
