
Intense fighting has broken out between Malwe Mountain and Khalayaung along the Dawei-Yangon highway in Yebyu Township, Dawei District, Tanintharyi Region, where passenger vehicles are stranded and four civilians have been killed by the military council forces, according to Ko Chan, information officer of the Kyarlinhine (Sakarpaw) Battalion, KTLA. The fighting began when revolutionary alliance forces attacked a military council column that entered Thayarmone village along the Dawei-Yangon highway (Union Highway No. 8) in Yebyu Township around 9 AM on August 25, and battles have continued until now.
Since August 27, both northbound and southbound traffic has been blocked on the road section between Khalayaung and Malwe Mountain. The fighting has been intense daily for nearly two weeks. Revolutionary forces have requested civilians to avoid using this road section due to the military situation. The military council forces killed four innocent civilians in Thayarmone village and Mile 60 area, arrested local residents, and looted and destroyed property from their homes. Approximately 10 villages have been evacuated due to the military column’s operations, with the military council conducting aerial reconnaissance and bombing raids. Vehicles and passengers stranded between Malwe Mountain and Khalayaung sections may remain blocked for another week due to the military situation. Military council aircraft have been reported flying over the area twice so far.
The military council forces have arrested residents of Thayarmone village, subjected civilians to torture, and killed four civilians in the Thayarmone and Mile 60 village areas. They have also looted civilian homes and deliberately destroyed property. Around 10 villages have been forced to flee due to the military operations. The military council continues aerial surveillance and bombing, while travelers remain stranded on both sides of the blocked road sections between Malwe Mountain and Khalayaung. According to revolutionary forces, the road closure may continue for approximately another week due to ongoing military operations. Military aircraft have been conducting flights in the area, though visibility has been limited due to cloud cover.
