Karen State military sources have confirmed that the military council is launching additional offensives with over 500 troops along the Asia Highway section in Myawaddy Township, Karen State, where they are already conducting intensive air and ground attacks. On August 28, the military council reinforced the area with a convoy of more than 50 military vehicles heading towards the Asia Highway. The reinforcement includes drone bombing units, mechanized units, heavy missile units, and newly recruited soldiers. The military is preparing to escalate its ground offensive operations in the region.
Starting from 7 AM, continuous heavy artillery fire has been directed from Kawkareik area towards the old Dawna mountain road and the Asia Highway section leading to Myawaddy. While the military is attempting to fully regain control of the Asia Highway, Thangyinnaung, and Myawaddy areas with increased momentum, they have repeatedly been forced to retreat due to resistance from revolutionary forces. Additionally, the military has threatened to conduct airstrikes on the bases of Border Guard Force (BGF) and DKBA if they choose to align with the KNLA and PDF forces.
Military sources report that Infantry Division 22 from Hpa-an is deploying large numbers of troops to the Kyondoe and Kawkareik areas. The military is planning intense offensive operations to regain control of the Asia Highway, Thangyinnaung, and Myawaddy regions. Despite being forced to retreat in every battle, the military is now preparing to launch new attacks using large numbers of newly recruited soldiers while continuing their air strikes. Karen military sources indicate that these operations represent a significant escalation in the military’s attempts to reassert control over these strategically important areas, though they continue to face strong resistance from revolutionary forces.
