The terrorist military council conducted an airstrike on Letbu village in Natmauk Township, Magway Region, killing 5 civilians including 2 children and injuring 9 others, while destroying 7 houses, according to a People’s Defense Force (PDF) official from Natmauk Township. The airstrike occurred on August 24 at 8:30 PM when a military aircraft from Naypyidaw dropped two 500-pound bombs on the village without any ongoing fighting in the area.
The victims who died in the airstrike were identified as 3-year-old Ma Thet Tun, 12-year-old Ma Chaw Zin Kyaw Kyaw, 37-year-old Daw Lwun Po, 65-year-old U Kyi Myint, and 67-year-old U Win Saung. Among the 9 injured civilians were two brothers aged 9 and 12 years old who suffered severe eye injuries, with one completely losing his eyesight. The bombing resulted in the complete destruction of 7 houses, with one house being completely obliterated from the impact.
The military council deliberately targeted civilian homes despite there being no active conflict in the area at the time of the attack. Local authorities have warned residents to prepare bomb shelters and take immediate cover whenever aircraft are heard overhead. The attack demonstrates the military council’s continued use of airstrikes against civilian targets, showing complete disregard for civilian lives and property. Local defense officials emphasized the importance of civilian protection measures given the military’s pattern of indiscriminate aerial bombardment of residential areas.
