
Military Region 1 has reported that numerous Hindu Gorkha soldiers, who were forcibly recruited by the military, were killed during battles that took place in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region, between August 6 and August 15. The People’s Defense Forces successfully engaged with military columns that had entered Nan Saung Pu village, resulting in significant casualties among the forcibly conscripted soldiers.
The military column, led by Major Than Min Htike and Captain Thun Linn Soe from Ta-Ta-Ka 10, along with Captain Win Min Soe from Sa-Ka-Ka 10’s Infantry Battalion 363, comprised over 120 troops attempting to launch an offensive in the area. However, they encountered fierce resistance from the People’s Defense Forces. During the engagement, three military bodies were recovered, and one prisoner of war was captured.
Revolutionary forces seized a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition from the military during the battle. The captured weapons included one MG-42, one BA-100, one MA-4, two MA-E, two MA-1, two MA-3, one G-3, two MG-42 spare barrels, five RPG rounds, twenty-four various ammunition magazines, and other military supplies and ammunition.
The ten-day battle involved the coordinated efforts of multiple resistance groups, including Special Operation Battalion 5, Special Operation Battalion 6, Kalay District Battalion 4, Kalay District Special Column (PDF + KNDF), Kalay Township PDF, Kalaywa Township PDF, Mingin Township PDF, and PDF Zoland-Drone Team. The battle resulted in particularly heavy casualties among the Hindu Gorkha soldiers who had been forcibly conscripted into military service, as confirmed by the resistance forces.
