A spokesperson from PHOENIX (SGG) Phoenix Force (Sagaing) confirmed that resistance forces successfully ambushed a military council column near Kyaw Zeya village in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in the death of 7 military council soldiers and the capture of 3 others. During the engagement, the resistance forces also seized 8 firearms and various military equipment. The operation demonstrated the growing capabilities of resistance forces in the region.
The incident occurred on July 27 when resistance forces, acting on prior intelligence, intercepted and attacked a military council column of approximately 100 personnel that was advancing through forest routes from Thit Cho Kone village toward Kyaw Zeya village. Kyaw Zeya village is situated along the Shwebo highway, not far from Thit Cho Kone village. The ensuing battle was intense, but resistance forces managed to withdraw successfully without suffering any casualties. The coordinated operation involved PHOENIX (SGG) Phoenix Force (Sagaing) working alongside allied resistance groups.
In retaliation for their losses during the engagement, the military council forces carried out punitive actions against civilian populations, burning down multiple villages including Thit Cho Kone, Kyaw Zeya, Bagan Tu, Yanmagyin, Chaing Gyi, Lintaloo, Thanphyuhtaw, and Kyarmin Gyi villages. Hundreds of homes were destroyed in these arson attacks, forcing local residents to flee their communities and seek refuge elsewhere. This destructive response to their military losses exemplifies the military council’s pattern of collective punishment against civilian populations, demonstrating their continued use of violence against non-combatants in conflict areas.
