According to military sources in Naypyidaw, military council leader Min Aung Hlaing is scheduled to visit China at the end of August. The visit will include attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, following an official invitation from China. The summit will be held from August 31 to September 1, marking the 5th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
While Myanmar is not a member state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, it has been recognized as a dialogue partner since 2023. Additionally, Min Aung Hlaing will attend the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II and the victory celebration, which will be held in China on September 3.
According to Chinese media reports, Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend and pay respects at the military parade, during which China’s military capabilities will also be showcased. This trip represents a diplomatic engagement involving both international summit participation and attendance at historic ceremonies. The military parade will serve as a demonstration of China’s military prowess and a commemoration of historical events significant to the region.
