According to local revolutionary sources, intense fighting continues near Naung Pein village in Kyaukme Township, northern Shan State, with the military council forces conducting continuous attacks using drones and heavy weapons. The clashes, which began on the evening of August 20 and continued through the afternoon of August 21, have seen escalating violence as the military council forces maintain aggressive operations in the area.
Currently, military council troops have established a position within Thanpinkone village, where they are holding civilians as human shields. They are launching indiscriminate attacks using heavy weapons and drones from within the village. Revolutionary forces are actively defending against the military council’s offensive operations. The situation has become increasingly concerning as the military council continues to target civilian areas and infrastructure.
Additionally, a military convoy including armored vehicles that departed from Pyin Oo Lwin has reached Nawnghkio Township but has not yet proceeded toward Kyaukme Township. On August 20, the military council conducted an airstrike on a monastery in Pin Tee village, Kyaukme Township, resulting in the deaths of 10 internally displaced persons and severely injuring 12 others. This deliberate targeting of civilians has been strongly condemned by the Shan Students’ Union and ethnic youth organizations. The military council’s continued attacks on civilian targets and use of excessive force have drawn widespread criticism from local and international observers, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
