
Two civilians were killed when the military council forces attacked three villages in Gyobingauk and Oktwin Townships of Bago Region using drones and heavy weapons, according to local residents. On August 20, after 7 PM, military council troops stationed at Alaykon Police Station in Gyobingauk Township deliberately targeted and attacked Gyokopin village, Keingyi village, and Tharinkon village without any ongoing battles in the area.
During the attack, U Min Zaw Oo, age 47, and Daw Maw, age 49, from Tharinkon village were killed, while other villagers sustained injuries. Daw Maw died instantly from a drone strike, while U Min Zaw Oo succumbed to severe injuries while being transported for medical treatment. Additionally, civilian homes and buildings in the villages suffered significant damage during the attacks.
Currently, the military council continues to conduct military operations in Oktwin and Gyobingauk Townships, raiding villages, burning civilian homes, looting properties, and arbitrarily arresting and killing innocent civilians, according to local residents’ testimonies. Local civilians are increasingly concerned for the safety of their lives and properties, with some being forced to flee to safer locations. The ongoing military operations have created a climate of fear and instability in the region, with residents facing constant threats to their security and livelihoods.
