
At least 20 civilians, including children and internally displaced persons (IDPs), were killed when the military council forces conducted airstrikes and artillery attacks on Naung Pin village in Kyaukme Township, northern Shan State, on August 20 at around 9:30 AM. According to local residents, the military conducted two airstrikes near Naung Pin Pagoda followed by heavy artillery shelling. Among the deceased were IDPs who had fled from the Naung Cho area seeking refuge from earlier conflicts.
A local resident reported that the number of injured could be higher, though exact casualties cannot be confirmed at this time. Due to ongoing attacks, all remaining residents of Naung Pin village have been forced to evacuate to safer locations. Ground battles between resistance forces and military council troops continue in the area. The situation has created significant concern among local communities about deteriorating security conditions in the region.
Prior to this incident, on August 18, military council forces numbering approximately 800 troops had entered Thanpinkun village, located about one mile from Naung Pin village, and began artillery attacks in the area. These aggressive military operations have caused widespread fear and anxiety among local residents, who are increasingly worried about their safety and security as the situation continues to escalate in the region. The ongoing military offensive has severely disrupted civilian life and forced many to abandon their homes and seek shelter in safer locations.
