Revolutionary forces have successfully captured a military camp in Thawttha village, Mawlaik Township, Sagaing Region, taking multiple prisoners including the Pyu Saw Htee leader Aepa, according to revolutionary sources. The attack took place around 7 PM on August 15th, targeting a camp jointly held by approximately 70 military personnel and Pyu Saw Htee members. After about 30 minutes of intense fighting, the revolutionary forces managed to capture several prisoners and seize 23 weapons, including both heavy and light arms, along with ammunition.
The camp was reportedly staffed with a small number of military personnel and over 60 Pyu Saw Htee members. During the battle, there were casualties on both sides, and several individuals were captured alive, including the Pyu Saw Htee leader Aepa. Military reinforcements attempting to reach the camp from Taung Inn village were successfully blocked by revolutionary forces at the Nine Stream Bridge, preventing them from providing support. This blockade enabled the revolutionary forces to capture the Thawttha camp with relative ease.
The Mawlaik region experiences heavy rainfall, with Tha Nan Taw village on one side of the Nine Stream and Taung Inn village on the other. Thawttha and Tha Nan Taw villages are approximately two miles apart. Due to high water levels in the stream, when reinforcements from the Taung Inn side attempted to cross the bridge to reach Thawttha, revolutionary forces positioned on the Tha Nan Taw side successfully prevented their crossing. With only one bridge available for reinforcements, the military forces were unable to provide support to the camp.
Additionally, revolutionary forces intercepted military vessels traveling downstream from Hkamti and Phaungbyin townships near Kyar Inn village, forcing them to halt at Inn Ta Paung village. The military then attempted to provide reinforcements through the villages of Nan Sauk, Zikone, and Inn Ta Paung, leading to intense ongoing battles that have forced local residents to flee their homes. Currently, Inn Ta Paung and Thawttha are connected by land without requiring river crossing, allowing military forces to potentially provide reinforcements through the villages of Nan Sauk, Zikone, and Inn Ta Paung.
