
On August 16 at around 2 PM, drone strikes by the military council in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, resulted in the death of two civilians and injuries to five others. The military forces attacked Leik Kamaw and Gaw Tu villages with drone bombs, killing two people including a woman from Leik Kamaw village and wounding five other civilians. The deceased were identified as U Zaw Myint Aye, age 48, and Daw Ma Kyan Thein, age 51, while the injured were Ko Soe Win Naing, Ko Kyaw Maung Myint, U Maung Naing Win, U John Sein, and U Maung Aye Phyu.
U Zaw Myint Aye died after being hit in the face by bomb shrapnel, while Daw Ma Kyan Thein was killed when shrapnel struck her neck. The injured victims suffered wounds throughout their bodies. Additionally, on August 14, military council warships in the Kyaukphyu sea fired heavy weapons at Leik Kamaw village, killing Ko Kyaw Maung Chit, age 40, and 14 cattle owned by local residents were also killed by gunfire. The military council is currently launching major offensives to retake the Leik Kamaw camp, Min Taw Taung camp, and Hnan Phet Taung military camps in Kyaukphyu Township, which are under the control of the Arakan Army (AA).
Simultaneously, in the Moebye area of Pekon Township in Karenni State, military aircraft dropped seven bombs at 6:10 AM on August 19, according to local residents. The bombing targeted Loikaw Lo Hospital and a Christian church, with surveillance aircraft also participating in the attack. This attack follows an earlier airstrike on August 17 in the Moebye area that killed 32 civilians. The military continues to conduct aerial attacks in the region despite the previous civilian casualties.
