During a meeting with military personnel in Magway, military council leader Min Aung Hlaing made accusations against the National League for Democracy (NLD) party and declared that the military would continue to defend the 2008 Constitution. He accused the NLD of employing dishonest methods due to their unwillingness to cooperate politically with the military, claiming they acted with hatred to eliminate the military’s role in politics.
Min Aung Hlaing justified the military’s seizure of state responsibilities by alleging voter fraud in the 2020 general election. He accused the NLD government of managing state affairs under the guise of democracy with liberal ideology and foreign interference. He claimed they had both directly and indirectly engaged in writings and incitement to foster hatred against the military. He further alleged that the NLD’s failure to successfully manage economic, administrative, and other sectors had led to the country’s decline in multiple areas.
The military leader stated that after elections are held and when the winning party takes state responsibilities, the military will continue to participate in the national political role granted by the 2008 Constitution and maintain its role as defender of the constitution. These statements represent a continuation of Min Aung Hlaing’s persistent criticism of the NLD party since the military seized power in 2021, consistently targeting the party with accusations while asserting the military’s intention to maintain its constitutionally-granted political role.
