The Pa-O National Organization (PNO) people’s militia, operating under the military council, has burned down more than 100 houses in Naung Htaw Kayan village in Hsihseng Township, Pa-O Self-Administered Zone of Southern Shan State, according to Khun Rain Yan, the information officer of the Pa-O National Liberation Army (PNLA).
The destruction began on August 9 and has continued to the present day, with PNO forces under the leadership of crony businessman Nay Win Tun systematically burning houses in the village. The PNLA spokesperson emphasized that the targeted village had no military significance and that no fighting had occurred in the area. The forces have been methodically destroying homes one by one, causing extensive damage to civilian property and displacing local residents.
The PNLA information officer condemned these actions as base and cruel, questioning whether Pa-O youth and educated individuals were content to burn their own territory while protecting the interests of crony Nay Win Tun and the military dictatorship. He stressed that this destruction of civilian homes, targeting non-military areas and innocent villagers, represents the oppressive tactics of the authoritarian regime. The spokesperson called on Pa-O youth to reconsider their involvement in such destructive actions against their own people and region, urging them to stand loyally with their community rather than serving the interests of the military council and its associates.
