A military column operating in Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region, was ambushed by revolutionary forces, resulting in the death of 20 military soldiers and the capture of various ammunition, according to Comrade Aung Soe, the military affairs officer of the People’s Democratic Army (PDA). The clash occurred on August 14 at 11 AM near an old railway station between Suhtun village and Ywarthittaung village in Nyaung-U Township. Revolutionary forces successfully intercepted and engaged the military column during their operation in the area.
During the battle, 7 soldiers from the Nyaung-U side and 13 soldiers from the Thitayumun side were killed, bringing the total military casualties to 20. There were also numerous injuries reported among the military forces. The revolutionary forces managed to seize various military equipment including one hand grenade, one Inaga, 19 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, and 16 rounds of 7.62 ammunition. The engagement occurred at close range, approximately 50 meters apart, resulting in intense close-quarter combat between the two forces.
According to Comrade Aung Soe, the military soldiers were carrying both weapons and looted goods, which hampered their ability to effectively return fire during the engagement. He explained that due to the military column’s size of approximately 100 personnel, the revolutionary forces were unable to capture more weapons and ammunition. Currently, the military has reinforced its troops and is continuing its operation toward Ywarthittaung village. Revolutionary forces have issued warnings to local civilians to remain vigilant and exercise caution due to ongoing military movements in the area.
