Justice For Myanmar (JFM) has called on the Indian government to immediately cease arms sales and military cooperation with Myanmar’s military council. This demand comes following leaked documents revealing collaboration between an Indian company, Astra Microwave Products Ltd, and Myanmar military’s arms broker company, Light Head Group of Companies Limited, for the supply of Drishti Low Level Light Weight Radar (LLLWR) systems to the Myanmar military council.
The LLLWR system is a lightweight anti-drone radar designed to track and detect low-flying aerial threats such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and drones. Astra Microwave Products Ltd is a partner of the Defence Research and Development Organization under India’s Ministry of Defence, collaborating on radar and missile systems development. Research findings indicate that since 2021, the Indian Air Force, state-owned enterprises, and private companies have been supplying the Myanmar military council with weapons, dual-use items, technology, and fuel.
Furthermore, evidence shows that the Indian government has been training military council officers in India. According to photographic evidence obtained by JFM, Myanmar military officials from domestic arms production facilities have received military technical training at the Indian Army Educational Corps Training College and Centre in Pradesh and the Indian Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering in Hyderabad. In 2023, Indian Defense Minister Shri Giridhar Aramane visited Myanmar and met with military council leader Min Aung Hlaing and other high-ranking military officials. Additionally, Indian experts helped upgrade the military-controlled Mann Thanpayakan oil refinery in Magway, which now produces aviation fuel.
Based on these findings, JFM has pointed out that the Indian government is complicit in the Myanmar military council’s war crimes. The organization demands an immediate end to arms sales and military cooperation with the Myanmar military council, which continues to conduct airstrikes against civilians. The evidence demonstrates a pattern of sustained military support from India to Myanmar’s military council, despite the latter’s ongoing human rights violations and attacks against its own people.
