A Lance Corporal from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 50 based in Gangaw, Magway Region, has defected to the Yaw Defense Force (YDF) Military Command Committee, bringing his weapon with him. The YDF spokesperson Ko Nay confirmed that the defection occurred on August 8th and the soldier was awarded 3 million kyats (approximately USD 1,430) for his defection with arms.
The Lance Corporal brought with him one MA-11 rifle, three ammunition magazines, 71 rounds of ammunition, and two communication devices. According to Ko Nay, the defector, who had served in the military for six years, is being treated well as a civilian and will be protected in accordance with the laws of the YDF Military Command. The successful defection was coordinated through prior communication between the intelligence unit of the YDF Military Command and their contacts.
In addition to the monetary reward, the YDF has committed to providing other necessary assistance to the defector. This defection represents another instance of military personnel choosing to switch sides, reflecting the ongoing shifts in loyalty within the military ranks and the continuing momentum of personnel joining the civilian resistance movement. The YDF emphasized that they will continue to support and protect those who choose to defect from the military council’s forces, treating them with dignity and ensuring their safety under their protection.
