
The military council conducted an airstrike on Linhaungkyi Monastery and its surrounding area in eastern Mogok city, Mandalay Region, which is under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA). The bombing, which occurred without any ongoing battle, killed 10 civilians including a novice monk, children, and a pregnant woman. According to local sources, the military dropped 500-pound bombs on the monastery and nearby residential area around 8:30 PM on August 14, targeting the area near Ngapat Mountain in eastern Mogok Township.
The airstrike resulted in the deaths of at least 10 civilians, including a novice monk from the monastery, children, a pregnant mother, and elderly residents. Bodies were severely dismembered, with one child suffering a large head wound and a woman’s head completely missing from the impact. Many others were injured in the attack. The military council has been conducting frequent airstrikes on Mogok city since its capture by the TNLA, with numerous civilian casualties reported during attacks in May, June, July, and August.
On August 9, another airstrike targeted Kyauknaga village in eastern Mogok without any ongoing fighting, hitting a monastery and killing 5 civilians. On August 2, jet fighters dropped two 250-pound bombs on Mogok city, resulting in 12 deaths and 14 injuries. Multiple attacks throughout July also caused civilian casualties and destroyed homes. The military’s continued airstrikes on civilian areas have resulted in significant loss of life and property damage, with numerous incidents documented of bombs being dropped on residential areas, monasteries, and public spaces without military targets present.
