According to the military affairs officer of the Pyay District People’s Defense Force, thousands of civilians are fleeing in fear as military council forces continue their offensive in Thayetkone Township, Bago Region, where they have burned down three villages. Beginning on the morning of August 14, military forces entering Thayetkone Township set fire to Hyonpintet village, Boekone village, and Kyatkwe village. The military operation has forced thousands of residents from these villages and nearby areas including Hyonpintet, Boekone, Kyatkwe, Thayet-kyaing-kyoe, and Dharyway-kyauk villages to flee to safety.
Military council soldiers have been reported to be looting civilian property from the villages and transporting stolen goods to Thayetkone town using vehicles. The military forces have been conducting operations without any active fighting taking place, focusing instead on raiding villages and destroying civilian property. Hyonpintet village has suffered arson attacks for two consecutive days, though the exact number of destroyed homes cannot yet be confirmed according to the military affairs officer of the Pyay District PDF.
On August 12 and 13, military council forces had already burned down Hyonpintet village, Dharyway-kyauk village, and Thayet-kyaing-kyoe village. They also attacked fleeing civilians using drones and heavy weapons. The systematic destruction of civilian property and forced displacement continues as part of the military council’s operations in the area, causing widespread humanitarian concerns as thousands of villagers seek safety in surrounding areas. The military’s actions have left many civilians without homes or possessions as they flee from the advancing forces.
