According to local revolutionary forces, military airstrikes near Taung Yin village in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, have resulted in the deaths of 16 civilians and injured more than 20 others. The attack occurred around 2 PM on August 11, when four fighter jets – two from Tataoo Air Base and two from Meiktila Air Base – conducted approximately 20 bombing runs on a rest stop and restaurant near Taung Yin village.
In the immediate aftermath of the airstrikes, seven bodies were initially discovered. The following day, on August 12, when revolutionary forces conducted further area clearance operations, they found nine more bodies, bringing the total death toll to sixteen. Most of the victims were identified as travelers and truck drivers from Sagaing and Mattaya townships who were resting at the restaurant when the attack occurred.
According to local revolutionary sources, all the casualties were civilians, with no resistance fighters among the dead. They stated that the military deliberately targeted this location despite knowing it was a civilian rest area frequented by travelers and local residents. The number of injured has exceeded twenty people, with some sustaining severe injuries. The military council’s forces specifically targeted the restaurant where civilians were taking their rest, demonstrating a deliberate attack on a clearly civilian target.
