According to Karen military sources, the terrorist military council conducted an airstrike using a Y-12 aircraft on the evening of August 10th targeting the Karen National Union (KNU) Central Headquarters in Karen State, resulting in one soldier being injured. The attack occurred around 8 PM, specifically targeting the KNU Brigade 7 Headquarters areas of Maw Poe Klo and They Bay Hta.
The airstrike caused fires in some civilian homes and resulted in one KNLA soldier sustaining shrapnel wounds to his waist, though the injury was not life-threatening. Military council forces had been conducting aerial surveillance of the area since the afternoon before launching the attack. The incident has forced many local residents to flee to the Thai border area for safety, and due to ongoing concerns about further airstrikes, many displaced persons have not yet been able to return to their homes.
The threat of military airstrikes has also created difficulties for planning ceremonies to commemorate the 75th Karen Martyrs’ Day, which falls on August 12th. Karen military sources have expressed concern about the challenges of organizing these important memorial events while facing the constant threat of aerial attacks from the military council. The situation continues to highlight the ongoing challenges faced by ethnic communities in Myanmar as they attempt to maintain their cultural traditions and commemorations while under threat from military aggression.
