The funeral ceremony for Myint Swe, who served as the acting president for the terrorist military, will be held on August 11 in Naypyidaw. According to government employee circles in Naypyidaw, civil servants are required to line the streets to pay respects when the funeral procession passes, while some are assigned to attend the funeral. The body of Myint Swe, who died on August 7, will lie in state for five days before being ceremonially transported to the military cemetery.
The terrorist military will conduct the funeral with military bands and ceremonial honors, while implementing tight security measures throughout Naypyidaw. Myint Swe began experiencing health deterioration in 2023, suffering from decreased mobility, reduced food intake, and Parkinson’s disease-related neurological issues. He subsequently received medical treatment in Singapore and at military hospitals in Myanmar.
Myint Swe received close medical care at his residence throughout 2024, and in July 2025, he was admitted to Military Hospital No. 2 due to weight loss, poor appetite, fever, and decreased brain function, where he eventually passed away. He was 75 years old at the time of death and had served in the military up to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Myint Swe was a trusted associate of former military dictator Than Shwe and served as Chief Minister of Yangon Region from 2011 to 2016. During the National League for Democracy government, he became Vice President as the military’s appointee. After the 2021 coup, Min Aung Hlaing removed President Win Myint and installed Myint Swe as acting president.
