
On August 8, residents of Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region held a protest march against the military council’s planned election and commemorated the 37th anniversary of the 8888 Democracy Uprising. Hundreds of township residents participated in the demonstration to express their opposition to the military council’s illegitimate election. Protesters carried signs and chanted slogans including ‘We reject the terrorist military council’s election,’ ‘Down with the military dictatorship,’ and ‘We demand federal democracy.’
The participants in the protest march declared their complete rejection of the sham election planned by the military council, expressed their determination to eliminate the military dictatorship system, and affirmed their commitment to fighting for the emergence of a genuine federal democratic system. Additionally, they marched to honor the historic 1988 Democracy Uprising that occurred on August 8. The protesters conducted their demonstration peacefully and in unity, while pledging to continue their efforts in the people’s revolution until the complete elimination of the military dictatorship system.
