The National Unity Government (NUG) Acting President Duwa Lashi La has stated that in both the 8888 Uprising from 37 years ago and the current Spring Revolution movements, the people remain firmly united in their fundamental stance against the military dictatorship. Speaking at today’s 37th anniversary commemoration of the 8888 People’s Democracy Movement, he emphasized that the revolutionary spirit born during the 8888 Uprising has matured most purely within the Spring Revolution, and stressed the need to collectively nurture the current Spring Revolution until a new Federal Democratic nation can be established.
The Acting President highlighted that there is no difference between the essence of public political movement and revolutionary spirit, as they remain solidly unified in their opposition to military dictatorship. He emphasized the importance of advancing the current Spring Revolution with pure conviction and belief while honoring and understanding the value of the 8888 Uprising. He also stressed the need to fully comprehend the current situation of the 2021 Spring Revolution and understand the differences between 8888 and 2021 movements. The lessons learned from past mistakes must be considered carefully by revolutionary forces when fighting against the military dictatorship system, avoiding weaknesses that could tarnish historical progress.
The commemoration of the 8888 People’s Democracy Movement serves as a bridge between past revolutionary history and the current period of transition. Compared to the 1988 revolutionary period, the current 2021 revolutionary era shows broader political thinking among the public, with mass movements becoming deeper and more extensive. Public political activities and armed resistance have visibly spread across the entire country. He clarified that the anti-military dictatorship movement must be viewed as more than just a historical event, specifically aimed at democratic transition and the establishment of a new Federal Democratic nation. The Acting President emphasized that every action, statement, and deed must consistently progress through these processes, with public political methods and armed revolutionary strategies maintaining proper connections within this framework.
