A military informant named Aung Aung, who had been oppressing civilians in Ingapu Township, Ayeyarwady Region, was killed following an attack by revolutionary forces, according to a responsible official from the R-14 UG group. The incident occurred on August 3rd when revolutionary forces encountered and shot Aung Aung, a resident of Kyipin village, near the foothills of the Yoma mountain range. He sustained severe injuries with a gunshot wound that entered through his abdomen and exited through his back.
While receiving medical treatment for his severe injuries at Hinthada Public Hospital, Aung Aung succumbed to his wounds on the afternoon of August 6th. The deceased military informant was known for various acts of oppression against local civilians, including using military forces to torture people, extorting money under various pretexts, ordering the torture of villagers, arresting people who traveled to the Yoma mountain range by accusing them of supporting the People’s Defense Force (PDF), and conducting surveillance on revolutionary camp locations.
A spokesperson from the R-14 UG group detailed the encounter, explaining that they confronted Aung Aung near the foothills of the Yoma range on August 3rd and opened fire. After he sustained the through-and-through gunshot wound from abdomen to back, they attempted to fire again but had to retreat due to a weapon malfunction. The spokesperson also revealed that Aung Aung operated a mushroom trading business as a front, using mushroom collectors to gather intelligence about the locations and movements of revolutionary forces’ camps, which he would then report to the military. This systematic gathering and reporting of intelligence had been significantly hampering revolutionary activities in the area and putting civilian lives at risk.
