According to sources in Yangon, the military council forces have launched a drone attack on the residence of the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA) military chief in Waw Lay area. On August 3, the military council used kamikaze suicide drones to attack the house of DKBA military chief Colonel Saw Sein Win in Waw Lay area of Myawaddy Township, resulting in damage to the house and car garage, though no casualties were reported, as confirmed by Karen military sources.
According to Karen military sources, although Colonel Saw Sein Win has not been residing in the house for quite some time, the military council deliberately targeted the location, causing concern among DKBA members. The military council has adopted a stance of treating all armed groups not aligned with them as enemies, implementing an ‘if you’re not with us, you’re against us’ approach, the source further explained.
While the DKBA main force has not made any official announcement, they have ceased providing assistance to the military council, and there are growing security concerns in the DKBA-controlled Kyauk Kat area. Currently, as the military council continues to lose border outposts, they have resorted to indiscriminate attacks, according to Karen military sources. The military council’s recent targeting of the DKBA leader’s residence marks the first such direct attack, indicating a deliberate escalation against non-aligned armed groups.
Currently, the Waw Lay strategic hill military base is under siege by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and revolutionary forces, preventing the military council from sending ground reinforcements. While the military council attempts to supply food and ammunition by air, these supplies are being intercepted by KNLA joint forces. Additionally, KNLA joint forces have successfully captured several significant military council camps along the Thai-Myanmar border, including Pu Lu Tu, Khlay Day, Thaw Bi Khee, Maw Phar Thu, Ta Lay, May La, Black Do, Maw Khee, Bogyoke Naung Camp, Kanae Lay, Shwe Aye Myaing, Thae Baw Boe, Htee Ka Play, and Ukayit Hta camps. These successive captures of military outposts demonstrate the growing strength of the revolutionary forces and the weakening position of the military council in the border regions.
