On August 1st in Yangon, Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) Chairperson Khin Yi held a significant meeting with ultranationalist leaders who had previously been prominent critics of the National League for Democracy (NLD) government. The meeting, which took place at the USDP party headquarters, was primarily focused on seeking cooperation for success in the upcoming election. The gathering brought together various influential ultranationalist figures who had historically maintained strong opposition against the NLD administration.
The meeting was attended by notable ultranationalist leaders including Khin Wine Kyi, Win Ko Ko Latt, Myat Phone Moh, Tin Linn Htike, Tin Aung San, lawyer Aye Paing, and several monks from the Ma Ba Tha organization. These individuals had previously been known for their fierce criticism and opposition to the NLD government. During the meeting, Khin Yi emphasized the importance of collaboration on nationalist issues and urged all participants to contribute to ensuring success in the upcoming election. The discussion centered around ways in which these nationalist figures could support electoral activities within their respective capacities.
Additionally, in recent days, the USDP Chairperson has also conducted separate meetings with military-supporting actors and comedians, requesting their assistance in ensuring electoral success. These meetings appear to be part of USDP’s broader electoral strategy, demonstrating their efforts to consolidate support from ultranationalist groups and military supporters in preparation for the election. The series of meetings indicates a coordinated approach to gathering support from various pro-military and nationalist segments of society, revealing the party’s strategic preparations for the electoral process.
