A corporal from a military camp stationed along the Monywa-Mandalay road in Sagaing Region has defected to the people’s side, bringing his weapon with him. The Urban Hunter Force (UHF) has confirmed that the defecting corporal was awarded 4 million kyats (approximately 40 lakhs) for his action. The incident occurred on July 28, when the corporal left his post at the military outpost along the Monywa-Mandalay road and joined the People’s Defense Force, specifically the Urban Hunter Force (UHF). He brought with him one MA-3 rifle, two ammunition magazines, and 40 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.
The defecting corporal has been safely received by the People’s Defense Force and is currently being housed with other resistance members. A spokesperson from the UHF confirmed the defection and the reward payment, emphasizing that they welcome other military personnel who wish to leave the military council’s forces. The UHF has assured that they will provide security and protection for those who choose to defect from the military council’s forces. The organization maintains that military personnel still serving under the military council are welcome to join the people’s side when opportunities arise.
This defection, complete with weapons and ammunition, represents a significant example of growing disillusionment within the military council’s ranks and increasing support for the people’s resistance movement. The UHF has emphasized that soldiers currently serving under the military council’s oppressive regime can safely defect to the people’s side with guaranteed protection. This incident demonstrates the ongoing internal challenges faced by the military council as more of its personnel choose to align themselves with the civilian resistance movement. The UHF continues to maintain open channels for military personnel seeking to leave their posts and join the people’s resistance movement.
