
On August 1 in Naypyidaw, Prime Minister Nyo Saw, who was appointed by terrorist military leader Min Aung Hlaing, held his first administrative meeting where he merely echoed Min Aung Hlaing’s previous statements. During the meeting, Nyo Saw stated that there should no longer be political, ethnic, and religious differences, and that it was necessary to proceed peacefully along the multi-party democratic path. He also urged all citizens to avoid actions that would deviate from the democratic path and to comply with the constitution and existing laws.
Nyo Saw, who served in the military up to the rank of Major General, was appointed as Min Aung Hlaing’s advisor. During the Than Shwe era, he was also one of Than Shwe’s trusted disciples. He retired from the position of Quartermaster General in 2020 and was placed in the military’s reserve force roster. A graduate of the Defense Services Academy Intake 23, Nyo Saw held numerous important positions including Chairman of Myanmar Economic Corporation, Chairman of Innwa Bank, and served as various military advisors. He also served progressively as Principal of the Defense Services Technological Academy, Principal of the Defense Services Academy, Commander of Southern Command, and Commander of Central Command.
Known for his ability to maintain good relations between superiors and subordinates, he earned special trust from Than Shwe. After Min Aung Hlaing’s coup, Nyo Saw was given numerous positions and was ultimately appointed as Prime Minister. According to military sources, he maintains contact with Than Shwe and his family to this day, carefully attending to Than Shwe’s needs. Throughout his career, he has been known as someone who can effectively manage relationships between different levels of hierarchy, which made him particularly favored by former military leader Than Shwe.
